Personality
He is the Emperor, born to the greatness of ruling over an Empire that has endured longer than memory. There is no separating whom Henry is from what he is. He is the epitome of strong resolve, unshakable determination, and iron will. In him, any traces of softness have been excised ruthlessly; weakness is a problem for others, but not for the Emperor. Not even the onset of twilight years diminish the power emanating from his aura.
As the Emperor, his words are delivered in a commanding, firm tone, his gaze steely and unyielding. Though mistakes and misjudgments occur, he is not one to admit such in public, or within hearing of his Assembly or Councillors. He would sooner die than concede flaw or folly, and in this, he has grown weak and blind. The blindness will be his undoing, as will his near-constant refusal to see beyond the moment.
History
Born the eldest son of the prior Emperor, Henry was given every ounce of training possible from the cradle. A strong military and strategic grounding, a thorough education, the gilded manners needed to guide and lead a Court. He was raised with a sword in one hand, a quill in the other, taught that the might of the Empire relied on the strength of the Emperor. There could be no weakness; any signs of such were greeted with harsh rebukes and punishment until Henry was a perfect copy of his father - cold, aloof, unapproachable and unwavering.
Choices were made for him until he reached his fifteenth year, the age of majority in the Empire. When most young men were sent off to the armies of the Empire to fulfill their citizenship requirement, he entered into the College of War to begin his more rigorous training in strategy and tactics. Upon reaching the age of 18, he was named his father's heir and began assuming some of the duties of the Empire, set to assume full power at the age of 30 if his father did not perish.
At thirty, an appropriate bride was selected to serve as Empress and to fill his nursery, bringing with it fresh responsibilities. Henry did not care for his bride, nor see her as anything more than an appendage, the same of his children minus his eldest son, Marcus. His daughters were bargaining chips, the better to secure alliances, settle feuds and tie the often squabbling Noble Houses to him more firmly. His younger sons were dispatched to various sinecures while he bent the full focus of attention on his heir.
As time transpired, he struggled to keep the Empire together, knowing that small rebellions take place and that the seemingly inexhaustible resources of the Dominion are dwindling. Threats of the Empire crumbling have forced him into increasingly rash acts, not the least of which is the plan to distract Demeria so that he can reclaim those lands despite his son's protests. Marcus will be thirty soon... and with that, the end of Henry's legacy.
