Personality
A walking contradiction is one of the best ways to describe Catalina. A woman of many layers, it takes a long time to gain the womans' trust although she gives her friendship fairly easily. In true Lintenese fashion, Catalina thinks of strangers simply as friends she has not had the chance to meet. Shy and quiet when one first meets her, many tend to underestimate the woman as simply being Alejos' trophy wife, a judgement that they would find to be the absolutely wrong one to make.
Catalina tends to adapt her behavior and mannerisms to what is appropriate for any given situation as well as the people around her, a skill that has come in useful many times in her life. Catalina often uses this skill to help her husband along despite the man generally being reluctant to allow his wife to enter the midst of possible danger. Manipulation is also a trait the woman has although she is subtle in doing so. A subtle, gentle influence on both Alejo and his crew, she tries to help her husband along as much as she can. Possessing a high spirit of mischief, patience, and love, Catalina strives to be the light for her husband when the days are dark.
As stubborn as her husband, oftentimes he is the only one capable of changing her mind once it is made up although the occurance of such is rather rare. A kind and sweet woman, Catalina is fiercely loyal to her husband, kin and all those that she holds dear. She is willing to go to arms to keep those dear to her safe and those that wrong her witness the womans' fearsome temper, one that is equal to that of her husbands which makes their spats quite heated, often leading to the man being banished to sleep on the deck though her resolve never lasts through the night and usually a vase is thrown at the mans head. A passionate woman both in her love for her husband and her beliefs, Catalina is a woman one does not want to cross, be they man or woman.
History
Born the only daughter of a Lintenese duke that already had two sons, Catalina grew up very well protected. As the girl grew, her father was made all too aware that she had inherited her mothers exceptional beauty. Training his daughter in the ways of using weaponry was an easy decision for the duke to make as he saw it as a way for Catalina to be able to protect herself not to mention personally thinking it would be a useful skill for her to have, considering the attention she started getting the older she got. This proved to come in useful and there are some men in Linten that bear a scar thanks to one Teresa Maria Catalina Medina de Rosa.
As Catalina passed the age of adulthood, her father started to seek a suitable spouse for his daughter. Many were turned away, either due to their lower ranks or making bad impression on either the daughter or the father. Catalina trusted her fathers judgement as she was trusted in return. The girl was certain that they would find a match that suited both their requirements although love was one of the last things on the girls mind considering she had been raised with the belief that she would marry for convenience. Catalina never once questioned this until the day she met Alejo.
A soft heart for animals, Catalina had been tending to orphaned fox kits that she had found near her home. She had taken them into the marketplace in hopes of finding them good homes when she first caught sight of the man that would one day be her husband. It was love at first sight for the girl although the man immediately offended her by calling her a kit to her face. Maintaining her sweet disposition, Catalina used the moment to subtly manipulate the man into taking one of the kits. She was sure he would provide a kind home for the fox as he had kind eyes. As she ran back inland, Catalina was certain that would be the last she would see of the unnamed man which was just as well considering her fathers plans for her.
She was proved wrong, however, when it seemed that the Lord she had met tracked her down. Turned away by her father, Catalina was quietly amused when Alejo just kept coming back. Gradually, she left subtle hints that his affections were returned though Catalina still held no hope that they would ever be together. When the serenades started, Catalina had no idea whether the man was supposed to be singing or was simply hollering poetry. Soon enough, a sort of routine ended up happening. Alejo would come and start his serenades and would refuse to listen to anyone else that came out to shut him up which would lead to Catalinas father sending her out to pacify the man and send him away. She was usually given five minutes to do so.
Instead of sending him away, however, Catalina and Alejo utilized those five minutes to spend time together. A stubborn man, Catalinas father did not relent for months though he eventually did so when Alejo proved to be quite the persistent suitor. No one else displayed such love and devotion for Catalina so the father eventually approved a betrothal with the condition that Alejo never sing in his presence again. Taking a year to get to know one another properly, Catalina was soon wed to the seafaring man and adjusted to life spent mostly on the sea. Perhaps an unconventional way for the times but neither could stand being without the other for too long. Joining her husband on his quests was no hard decision, even with the birth of their children. Catalina trusted in Alejos and his crews ability to keep them all safe.
Catalina saw the benefits of heading to Demeria and it was an idea she instantly approved of. At the same time, it would expose both her and their children to a new land and she sought to help her husband ferret out the smugglers.

Catalina had already been settling in for the night when she heard an all too familiar racket outside of her window. She had no idea if the man was supposed to be singing or was simply yelling words of love. If it was supposed to be singing then it certainly did not sound it. Attempting to sleep through the noise and hoping Alejo would just go away and let her household sleep in peace, Catalina gave up when she heard her father making his way towards her sleeping quarters. Peeking out her window at the man below it, she felt a blush tinge her cheeks as she took in the sight of him. Catalina could not have him and she was aware of it. Her father intended for her to use her beauty to marry higher or equal to their station. A seafaring third son was definitely not the proper suitor for her.
Turning away from the window as her father entered the room, she silently groaned in frustration as she was informed that Alejo had, once again, refused to listen to anyone but her. "He's persistent, I'll give him that," her father said with a mild wince at the horrid singing they were being regaled with. How many weeks now had the man come by and treated them to his horrid performance? As much as it tended to annoy her, it also pleased her that Alejo would go to such lengths. Nothing would make her happier than to have her father relent and allow her to wed the seafaring Alejo. This was not the case, however, as her father was determined that his daughter could do better.
"Go speak with him so that he can be pacified for the night. Five minutes, not a minute more," her father instructed before taking himself off to the kitchens. The poor man was getting all too used to having an out of tune, seafaring young man serenading his only daughter. He was starting to think that perhaps he would have to relent if he ever wanted another nights sleep. Besides, Alejo was the only one persistently showing up each day, at the exact same time. Unknown to her father, this was the moment Catalina had been waiting for. The chance to be in Alejos arms if only for a few moments. It struck her conscience that she was constantly betraying her fathers utmost trust but it could not be helped. Catalina was in love. Hopelessly and devotedly.
After her father had left her quarters, Catalina clothed herself and slipped outside. Remembering how they had first met, Catalina hid a smile at the sight of the fox she had given him when it was just a kit. Adopting a mock, stern look with her hands on her hips as she came into Alejos view, Catalina felt the usual happiness she felt whenever she was in the mans presence. "Don Alejo, some people enjoy sleeping at night," she stated, even as she allowed herself to be pulled into his arms as she kissed him with passionate longing. "You have to stop doing this, you have to stop coming here," she whispered between breathless, stolen kisses. As usual, she was simply told that he would not stop until he had her for his wife.
