In the Distance

Emma had returned safely to Triadon, though Riordan had yet to speak with her or his father, for that matter. Riordan had more than a few reasons for delaying the discussion with the man. One was that he wished to speak Emma first and see if the Princess Anya had any success with her brother in repairing the damage, as it were. Once reparations were underway, Riordan would feel comfortable speaking with his father. If reparations could not be made, then Riordan already had an alternative suggestion in mind.
The other issue was that he needed and wanted to speak with Selena first. While there was official business to be addressed, Riordan found that he had rather missed the woman. Typically, once a woman had left, Riordan would be sniffing around for the next conquest. The thought of bedding Marisa de Vere, Natalie Kendall or one of the St. Claire girls had entered his mind more than once. The control of his baser instincts was frankly challenging. The need to touch, hold and experience the pleasures a woman's body were as ambrosia to him. If he had not been so constrained by the rules of propriety, Riordan would have long ago attempted to seduce Selena.
He had a strong sense that he would have failed if he had attempted.
Riordan realized that is what helped keep him in check. It would not be worth destroying a growing friendship, attraction and affection all because he wished to experience bodily pleasures. Admittedly, though, it would not hurt. Riordan forced such thoughts away as he gazed thoughtfully toward the falls from the same vantage point they had shared a few weeks ago. He had asked Darton to escort to the vantage point. Riordan had needed some time alone first. A blanket had already been laid out, along with a few appetizers and a bottle of wine should they choose to enjoy it.
For now, he was standing a short distance from the edge with his hand upon his chin in a thoughtful manner. The clothing was regal, but somehow simple. Indeed, he looked as though a King thinking of the future and all of its possibilities.
