Personality
In true Jardinier fashion, Hadrian is a man who believes himself to be more of a farmer than a duke. He is a hard working man who isn't afraid to break a sweat. On the surface, he is quite aloof and rarely expresses his emotions. He is a stubborn mule of a man and the only person that can outstubborn him is his wife, Mariana. Hadrian can be quite charming when he wishes to be and has a way with words. On the surface, he may appear impassive and even tempered, hardly raising a harsh word unless he is pushed too far. The only person to hear Hadrian rant and rave is his wife, who knows just how to calm him down.
The man is determined to a fault, and persistent when there is something that he wants or wishes to see happen. Hadrian is oftentimes a silent man, only offering his opinion when it is asked for or if he feels it is warranted. With a clever mind for negotiations, considering he prefers words to swords, Hadrian can be quite persuasive. Fair and open minded, Hadrian works to ensure the overall happiness and contentment of the people who live within his duchy. A man of simple tastes, one would hardly recognize the man as a duke were it not for the noble way he carries himself. He has no love for fanfare and is apt to arrive places with only one or two people being aware of his arrival.
Beneath all of the traits that he displays for the courts, lies the man that only Mariana, their children and their closest and most trusted servants get to see. Protective of his family, he walks a fine line between the personality he allows to be displayed amongst others, and the man he is when he is in the comfort of his own home as well as the presence of those he holds dear. Passionate in his love for them, his wife reaps the sole, cherished benefit of hearing the more romantic way of words that he possesses. A poetic man, he often writes poetry and words of love for his wife to cherish during his rare times away from her.
He is caring, which his people benefit from but his family gets to see his warmer, more open side. He does not leave his wife and children with doubts that he loves and cares for them despite not displaying it openly in the public. After all, if people figure out that his family is his weakness, there is no telling the trouble that might occur and he wishes to protect them from that.
History
Hadrian was the first born son of Charles and Nicole Jardinier. A moderately close family, Hadrian was taught how to work the lands from an early age considering he would be the heir. He was never spoiled as his parents treated all their children equally. Working alongside his people, Hadrian managed to gain respect from them despite his aloof nature.
Hadrian was often the ear his father spoke to about there being a steward from their duchy within the King's council. A dream that was never realized when the man passed, leaving Hadrian as Duke of Fairfield at the tender age of 18. While Hadrian personally reserved judgement on the De Veres, he had to admit that is duchys foothold would be better if one of his people was within the Kings Council. Picking up on the dream his father had held, Hadrian began to attend court periodically.
During one of the court events, he met Princess Mariana Carlisle who was 14 at the time. Initially drawn in by the lure that securing her as a bride would help further his own agenda, he was mildly surprised to find that they became good friends despite his hidden agendas. Finding out that the princess was much more than what she let appear on the surface intrigued the young Duke. Maintaining his friendship with her was no hard task as he truly did enjoy her company.
A year later, when the Princess was 15, and himself, 19, the young Duke asked for Marianas hand in marriage but was denied by the King. Stubborn as a mule and by this time, very much in love with the Princess, he refused to let the matter drop. Luckily his desired bride felt the same way and insisted that she would marry no one else but him. Despite the fact that this incident would push him several steps back for his own goals, Hadrian found that he did not much care so long as Mariana was by his side.
Pleased when they were almost immediately blessed with a heir within their first year of marriage, Hadrian was quite content to stay away from the courts considering he was probably not very welcome within them anyway. Helping his wife settle into the different lifestyle was easier than he expected and he maintained the private thought that his wife was meant for this sort of life rather than that of royalty. Equally as pleased with his second son and daughters births as he had been for the first, he worked to foster a close family feel which was helped along by the generally warmer, more open nature that so far only his wife, children and most trusted servants are privy to. As his wife informed him of situations arising, the Duke found that now was as good a time as ever to show that his family and people were worthy and capable of having a steward on the Kings council, at the same time helping his wife with her own agendas.

A courier had arrived earlier that day while Hadrian had been checking on the lands. This season was shaping up to be a good one. Reading his wifes words when he had the time to take a breather, the man sat for a moment in silent reflection. Trouble in Triadon, it seemed like and he was not sure what to make of it. He thought he could smell the faint scent of his wife on the parchment and he found himself missing her. Days went longer when Mariana was not home for him to complain to or simply to hold her close. Their marriage was equal parts love, friendship and partnership and he felt himself a man truly blessed. From her letter, it sounded like his presence could be useful as well as the fact that he still seeked to realize the dream that he had picked up in his fathers honor. He had stayed away long enough, it was time to show that Fairfield was worthy of having one of their own on the Kings Council. He did not seek to be a king but he did seek to have a firmer foothold in the courts. Mind made up, Hadrian gestured for his most trusted servant to come to his side.
"Prepare for a few seasons stay, I leave for Triadon at daybreak," he informed the man as he stood. "What of the children, My Lord, will they be staying back?" The man asked, which gave Hadrian a moment of thinking. Their children had always had at least one parent with them since their birth. He also did not like the idea of having them stay back without him or Mariana around but that meant travelling with ... her. To say that he hated the woman they had hired as a nurse for baby Rowena was an understatement. Not that he ever let it show, at least not to anyone but his wife. "They will be with me, tell Mary to pack for the children, I will see to my own," he said, already on the move to do so. Travelling with that snake of a woman would be worse than going through the fiery pits of Hell. Mariana was going to be getting an earful but he supposed she would calm his nerves as only she knew how to do.
As the travel the next day wore on, Hadrian quickly found himself growing more annoyed every minute that passed. Damn it all, he wanted to rant.
