Demeria Time Line:
150 BF - The clans of Carlisle, St. Claire and Lancaster break away from Arton to settle the unexplored east.
149 BF - As the first arrivals, Carlisle claim the lakeshore as their territory, sending Lancaster and St. Claire further east. They settle some miles from the lake - Lancaster to the south, St. Claire to the north of Lancaster. The lake is called Lake Trilliad.
148 BF - The first settlement is named Triadon, construction begins.
145 BF - The city of Twinport is established, construction begins.
143 BF - The city of Indigane is established, construction begins.
142 BF - Clan Jardinier arrives.
140 BF - The city of Fairfield is established, construction begins.
125 BF - Triadon is completed.
100 BF - Initial meeting between the first three clans occurs at what is now Shaleford to discuss formal withdrawal from the Arton Empire. The decision is to remain loyal... for now.
50 BF - The nation of Linten, northeast of the Arton Empire, declares war, drawing in the three clans to defend the trade routes to the Eastern Sea.
38 BF - War with Linten ends. A fragile peace is imposed.
5 BF - The peace is shattered, involving the clans in war between the Empire and Linten once more.
Founding: After five years of war that descended into attrition, the three clans meet again at Fairfield, including Clan Jardinier, to revisit the question of secession. Decided unanimously, the four clans withdraw their troops back to their clan regions and send notice to the Empire of their withdrawal of fealty. The Empire divides its attention between Linten and attempting to crush the rebellious clans, fighting a war on two fronts.
1 AF - The clans unite under the banner of Kendrick Carlisle, defeating the Empire’s troops and capturing the Imperial flag. After a parlay, the secession is accepted and truce is declared; it is rumored in the Empire that the four clans will fail and seek to return to Imperial protection.
2 AF - Kendrick Carlisle is crowned King, wedding his sister to the Lancaster clan chief and taking the daughter of the St. Claire clan chief as his bride and queen. Jardinier, unable to support itself, agrees to vassalization under the St. Claires.
5 AF - Clan de Vere, tired of the machinations within the Empire, break away to stake a claim on some lands within Demeria, after negotiating at length with both Lancaster and Carlisle.
30 AF - The construction of Shalefort is completed.
35 AF - Kendrick Carlisle dies. His son Marlen becomes king and perpetuates the agreements between clans regarding intermarriage.
200 AF - The first vassal houses are created - Carlisle of Meirin, Warwick, Trevelyan, deLac, Rousseau and Salwick.
205 AF - Papel Island is settled.
320 AF - Pestilence sweeps through the Arton Empire, Linten and Demeria, leaving thousands dead, including the King. His son is not of age to rule, but is crowned King with his uncle as Regent.
322 AF - An assassination attempt is made on the boy-King. The plot’s mastermind is revealed as the Prince Regent, who is tried and executed. The Lords of St. Claire and Lancaster sit jointly as Regents until the King reaches the age of majority.
350 AF - Clan Rose flees Linten, seeking sanctuary within Demeria; they are granted lands that extend into Linten, who agrees to let it go, too exhausted from years of war. An agreement is reached with de Vere to become their vassals.
355 AF - The construction of Rosewine is completed.
400 AF - Clans Lancaster, deVere and St. Claire are rewarded for their service and loyalty by being elevated to duchies.
450 AF - Clan Jardinier is elevated to duchy status, after rather intense negotiations in which House Lancaster played a prominent role.
490 AF - War between the Empire and Linten begins anew; Clan Rose successfully defends the northern border with their Liege, Clan deVere.
505 AF - For their service and loyalty, Clan Rose is elevated to duchy status. Or so is entered in the annals, though it is suspected the King was made thoroughly drunk on a cask of Rosewine mead and granted duchy status for that reason.
560 AF - Lancaster allows Salwick vassal house status. In a similar move, St. Claire grants Warwick the same status.
587 AF - Clan Jardinier takes on a second vassal house, Fontaine.
628 AF - Drought strikes Demeria, bringing famine with it.
632 AF - Drought ends, but the population is significantly diminished as a consequence of the famine. Demeria will struggle to recover for decades.
741 AF - Clan deVere grants Peveril vassal house status.
803 AF - Clan deVere grants Kendall vassal house status.
850 AF - War resumes between Linten and the Empire, sending the deWinter clan fleeing to the east for succor and safety.
909 AF - Clan Rose grants the deLac vassal house status.
950 AF - The proposal to create a highway system in Demeria is put forth by Clan deWinter in order to make travel between duchies, vassals and Triadon easier.
955 AF - The first stretch of King’s Road is laid between Triadon and Fairfield.
982 AF - The stretch of road between Fairfield and Indigane is completed.
996 AF - Clan deWinter is elevated to duchy status, coincidental with the completion of the road between Triadon and Oakdale.
1008 AF - The loop forming the King’s Road around Triadon is completed.
1135 AF - The final stretch of the King’s Road is completed.
1170 AF - Clan deWinter grants Marbury vassal status.
1215 AF - Clan de Winter grants Halton vassal status.
1267 AF - The King creates a coast guard and instructs defensive ports to be built.
1331 AF - In a meeting with the dukes, the King declares the creation of the Crown Council, and agrees to the creation of six fortress-gates to guard the borders against future incursions by the Artonese and the Lintenians.
1356 AF - The fortress-gates are completed and roads constructed to them; the duchies begin their sub-highway system at the same time.
1449 AF - The sub-highway system is completed.
1478 AF - The nomadic tribe in the desert reaches terms with Clan Jardinier to maintain their independence through yearly tributes. They allow non-tribespeople to enter the hidden city of Havirn.
1499 AF - King Alinden Carlisle passes, resulting in a struggle between his twin sons, Sedrick and Neilon for the throne. Civil war is threatening when Neilon is killed in a riding accident. Sedrick is crowned.
1539 AF - Game begins.
