Correct Methods of Address Within the Court

The peerage ranking system in Demeria is based on the medieval/feudal English ranks and titles.

Noble Titles only in order of precedence from highest to lowest are (both male and female):


Title and How to Properly Address the Title:

Emperor/Empress - Your Imperial Majesty

King/Queen - Kings are addressed as Your Royal Majesty/Your Majesty. Queens *may* be addressed either as Your Majesty or Your Grace.
Informally, a King may be referred to as Sire, a Queen as Madam, or ma'am.

Prince Regnant/Princess Regnant - Your Most Royal Highness/Your Highness

Crown Prince/Princess - Your Royal Highness

Prince/Princess - Your Highness, Your Grace

Duke/Duchess - Your Grace

Marquess/Marchioness - My Lord/My Lady

Earl/Count - Countess - My Lord/My Lady

Viscount/Viscountess - My Lord/My Lady

Baron/Baroness - My Lord/My Lady

Lord/Lady - My Lord/My Lady

Knight - Sir and the knight's first name *only*, i.e. Christopher deWinter is addressed as 'Sir Christopher.'

Dame - the female equivalent of Knight. Dame and the female knight's first name only, i.e. Saundra Warwick is addressed as Dame Saundra.

Occasionally, bureaucratic titles will be given as well - these are NOT ranks of nobility and as such, are addressed differently:

Seneschal - My Lord/My Lady

Chancellor - Your Excellency

Governor - Your Excellency *or* Your Honor

Regent - Lord/Lady Regent or Your Excellency

Ambassador - Your Excellency

Church Titles:

Archbishop: Your Reverence

Patriarch: Your Eminence

Bishop: Your Grace

Preceptor: Your Excellency
