Brief History of House:
Hale and hearty have always succinctly described House St. Claire, and it is readily apparent in their history. The St. Claires trace their arrival into Demeria around the same time as the tribes that became Houses Carlisle and Lancaster. Ever since their arrival, the St. Claires have sought to dominate the river that flowed through their home. This gave rise to powerful men of the river, not only able to fish from it but mostly importantly learned to traverse and battle its often treacherous ways. The proximity of the river provided lush farm lands, plentiful food sources and all the wood one would need to survive. Thus, St. Claire grew into an impressive town, Twin Port.
While not as wealthy as the Carlisles or strategically sound as the Lancaster’s, Twin Port was nonetheless very appealing to bandits and malcontents. Anyone who managed to control the town had access to all the resources needed for a perfectly comfortable life. Raids were frequent. The natural strength and imposing stature of the St. Claire gave rise to an impressive military force. Before long, it was not uncommon for all within the St. Claire lands to be trained in the use of many weapons, all for protecting what was theirs.
This fighting savvy was put to the true test during the Artonese invasion. Combined with the tactical and strategic planning of the Carlisles and the resources of the Lancasters, the invasion was beat back after many years of war. Their accomplishment led to an agreement with Carlisle and Lancaster to form an alliance to prevent such invasions in the future.
Gideon St. Claire agreed to support Kendrick Carlisle as the first King of Demeria. In exchange for the agreement, it was agreed that Gideon’s eldest daughter, Carissa, should marry the Crown Prince of Demeria. This became tradition for the two families.
Today, House St. Claire is still within Twin Port and watches over their lands from the Twin Towers. The House contributes much to the Kingdom, but mostly in the form of a military. When properly equipped, the fighting force of the House is the most fearsome in the kingdom. With their impressive and sturdy barges, the St. Claires, in many ways, are still the tough backbone of the kingdom.
