Education in Demeria
Order Schools -
- open to anyone regardless of gender, social rank or financial status
- operated and managed by the Church Orders
- instructed by Order members
- offer basic education: reading, writing, figuring, rudimentary catechism
Higher Education -
- open to anyone who can afford the fees or obtain patronage (peasant/middle class)
- instruction takes place within the churches or cathedrals within the cities.
- education is expanded to include languages, natural history, philosophy, mathematics, history, herbalism, religious studies.
- instructors are Order members.
- These are not apprenticeships unless the student seeks to become an instructor themselves.
University-
- open to nobility or exceptional students with patronage from a noble and a recommendation from a Master Instructor. Males only.
- instruction takes place within one of the universities located either in Triadon, Twinport, Indigane or Oakdale
- education depends on the student’s interests, practically any field is available for deeper study. Triadon has experts in every field, Twinport commands economics and languages, Indigane is a center for engineering and architecture, and Oakdale is renowned for its medical knowledge.
- When a student completes his or her work to the university’s satisfaction, they are granted the title of Master in their field, and given their robes and chain to indicate such.
- Only a Master can take up a teaching position at the University. Most positions are held for life. Masters are granted chambers and study space as a reward for commitment to instruction.
- Masters may apply for noble or royal patrons to finance research projects.
