A More Accurate Impression

Her father held a more romantic view of court, honor and courtesy while Felice Ormonde Lancaster knew that her daughter's ambition would require a measure of worldly understanding. Selena took her lessons well, but was cautious in whom she revealed it to.

Pleased to see the smile, Selena inclined her head. "I believe we could be good friends, and as you say, we will both benefit from such a friendship." The thought that she might consider asking Lady Marisa to join her entourage occurred to her then, a speculative look coming into her eyes. "Perhaps I should see what her future intentions are."

"Remember what I said about what people want in Court and I will tell you what she and I both want: power." Was it safe for her to show Selena the cards? She didn't know, but she also had a strong feeling that Selena would not necessarily use that against them. If anything, it would help her understand at least two of the most influential ladies in court. "Though, I'm certain you've already surmised that." The smile was, again, an enigmatic one.

She smiled thinly, all too well aware of Fiona's meaning. "I believe I understand you, Your Highness. But I also believe you know the road to power for a woman is often cloaked in shadow and discretion. I may be young, but I've also been watching you for a number of years and know how far reaching your influence is. Influence is just a subtler name for power, I believe."

The sly comment was acknowledged with an incline of her head. "Thank you, Your Highness. I look forward to many more insightful discussions with you."
