Personality
Fiona could never remember when exactly she had earned the title of Iron Princess in the Court of Demeria, but she didn’t deny that it was well earned. Fiona was akin to an eagle, able to keep an eye on the various happenings within the Kingdom and use them to her advantage when it suited her. Naturally, when it came to actually using such knowledge, one had to be cold, aloof, calculating, and unyielding in its application. When her siblings and kinsmen started producing children, she made certain that she had a personal hand in their development, especially when it came to Court. Never would a Carlisle be allowed in court that couldn’t fend for themselves against the wolves.
Every move Fiona makes is for the benefit of the Kingdom, but more specifically, it’s for the benefit of the Carlisles. While Fiona can appreciate Sedrick’s coldhearted approach, she fears that he is going too far with such. This is where Fiona’s other nature starts to shine through. While she has the well-earned reputation of being called the Iron Princess, she also has a charismatic side that many feel instantly attracted to. If it is in the best interest of the Carlisles for another noble family to feel happy, so be it. What she can give can be just as easily taken away, after all.
Fiona tries to stay close to her family. The relationship between Sedrick and herself is strained at best, but she refuses to let her presence within the court diminish. Sedrick may be King, but she was a Royal Princess long before he was a thought in her dear brother’s head. Thus, she strives to maintain a better relationship with grandnieces and nephews. Emma, she realizes, may fear her some, but everything she does is in her best interests, or so she believes. As for Riordan, she has mild concerns for his proclivity toward the ladies, but can he really be blamed? After all, it has been quietly rumored that Fiona has had a string of lovers herself, even during her marriage with Martin Lancaster. There are two others in the court that she truly calls a friend, and they are Spencer Lancaster and Marisa de Vere. The latter has been her protégé for several years, and in many ways, Fiona’s pride and joy. As for the former, any rumors that they are or were anything more are quickly quashed by a stern gaze from the Iron Princess.
History
The youngest of the family, Fiona was the precious daughter of the family as her mother had always wanted one. Fortunately, Fiona was not overly spoiled or indulged. After all, she was the Royal Princess of the realm, and while she was afforded with every opportunity, she was not going to be some spoiled brat! Thus, her mother had the uncharacteristic approach of making Fiona earn everything she wanted. If Fiona wanted to be princess, she was going to complete her lessons, obey instruction and behave like a princess. While it was a stern method of parenting, it seemed to work well with Fiona. Little did they realize that it would ultimately make their daughter an ambitious woman.
As Fiona made her way through the awkward phase of adolescence and young womanhood, she realized that not only was she naturally charismatic but quite beautiful to boot. While she never let it get to her head, she didn’t shy away from using it to her advantage to get what she wanted. Thus, she was not a social butterfly but a hawk of the Court. Fiona was always working on some sort of agenda. If there was a man on the council she didn’t like, she worked to remove him. If there was a woman attempting to usurp her place in the court, she went on a campaign to destroy her credibility. After all, her mother did make very clear that if Fiona ever wanted anything, she would have to earn it.
Naturally, like any ambitious woman, she wanted a good marriage. To Fiona, a good marriage was not only political, but there had to be the promise of a partnership. The sights were set on Spencer Lancaster, especially since she found his personality quite agreeable and he was attractive to boot. However, that was not to be. Her father didn’t want her marrying a Lancaster duke, since that would give them too much influence. However, since he did want to maintain a good tie with the Lords of Indigane, he ordered her married to Martin Lancaster. Fiona was not pleased with this arrangement, but didn’t fight it, either.
In time, he father died and the throne passed on to her brother who had already given birth to two boys. Fiona had always suspected that the boys were going to be a problem, worried that there may very well be a succession crisis. However, when one of them died and Sedrick’s hold on the throne was secured, she was relieved… briefly. It didn’t take her long to hear rumors. Whether she ultimately found evidence to support or deny these vicious rumors has never been said. Nonetheless, the new King was in need of guidance and Fiona worked to the benefit of his children. Thus, she pressed for the arrangement of the eldest daughter, Mariana, to the Jardinier Duke. Any plans she had for Emma and Tristan, however, were fiercely shoved aside from the increasingly dark and dangerous King Sedrick.
Knowing her influence over her nephew was waning, Fiona has been working to maintain strong ties with grandnieces and nephews. It was them that hope for the good Demeria lie, and she would fight fiercely to defend the reign of the Carlisles. In addition, through the request of Rupert de Vere, she agreed to tutor and groom the beautiful Marisa de Vere. Since Mariana had been married off and Emmaline was being groomed for a foreign prince, Fiona had found the perfect protégé to be her replacement. The Iron Princess would always be present in the Court, even after Fiona passed from the Earth.

The Lancasters were returning to Court. It had been the first Fiona had seen or heard from then since the death of Spencer’s wife. A thought was spared toward the woman. She hadn’t been a bad woman, really. The perfect wife in every respect, but she could easily tell that Spencer had not been in love with the dark haired woman. How could he be blamed? After all, she had didn’t have any such feelings for her own late husband. Martin hadn’t been a bad man in anyway. A bit obnoxious from time to time, especially when he thought he was being clever or funny. However, it could have been far worse.
Now that Spencer was returning to Court, Fiona was looking forward to renewing the friendship between the two of them. The rumors would no doubt start up again, but Fiona could ignore them or quash them as needed. The rumors, oh the rumors. That her children were actually Spencer’s, that she made love with him at every possible chance … they all made her chuckle darkly. The creativity in the court was sadly waning. That was something she hoped to instill in Marisa. If she was going to start a rumor, make it a good one. Rumors, after all, could make or break a person in Court.
Tearing herself away from the balcony that overlooked the torch lit city, Fiona drifted her way back into the evening Court session. A pleasant expression was put in place, and she wondered just what sort of machinations she would find tonight.
