MARIANA CARLISLE JARDINIER
Nickname: Maria
Gender: Female
Age: 25
Birthday: 26, May, 1514 AF
Noble Houses: Carlisle and Jardinier
Skills: Household Management, Courtly Graces, Blending In, Diplomacy
Play By: Tamzin Merchant
Immediate Family Members:
Parents:
Sedrick Carlisle
Liadane Carlisle (deceased)
Siblings: Riordan, Emmaline, and Tristan
Spouse: Hadrian Jardinier
Children: two sons and a daughter
Personality:
On the outside, Mariana is a kind, gentle soul with a quiet nature, the peacemaker among the tempers of her family. She never orders anyone around, at most making a request. The only sign of her displeasure would be seen as an expression of disappointment, though she wouldn’t argue about it on the open. If there’s something that she can do, however, she would address the issue at hand discreetly, and have it resolved through sheer stubbornness she inherited from the St. Claire line. Rarely demonstrated, that trait, as well as those of cunning and determination, is very subtly displayed, and only when she considers the situation deserves it.
While she’s adept at skills that require running a household and negotiating for her House, she prefers not to present them, leaving most for her husband when he’s around, as she dislikes the court games immensely, and would rather avoid them at all costs. However, if it has to be done, then she would step in, for Mariana had been taught to worry about placing the land and its people above her own needs, and it now has her wondering whether she would be able to change the things in her country and her family for the better. Being a bit of a worrywart, she always finds something to worry about, be it her husband, children, siblings, her father, or the state of the country her family rules. She tends to hide her own emotions if she knows others need her and isn’t always open with any but those she trusts.
The closest to her mother, Mariana experienced a tremendous shock at the time of Liadane's death, but managed to hide it enough to be able to take care of her siblings while she was living at Carlisle castle. To her siblings, except her younger brother Riordan, Mariana is someone they do not know too well, and all three are uncomfortable in each other's presence. Trying her best to blend in to avoid any notice from her father so that she didn’t need to face disappointment from him, she hadn’t tried to attract more notice than necessary, aside from informing the family of births of her children. Close to her own children and in love with her husband enough to insist on that alliance and no other for herself, the Lady Jardinier did not have much time to get to know her younger siblings properly, which ensured that she was never too certain how to act around them. Now she thinks she might be able to change it a little but there are a lot of uncertainties that she must take into account.
History:
The eldest of the four, Mariana was not the heir her father hoped she would be, so she was spared the spoiling and the pressure of the Heir's responsibility. While her father certainly was frustrated about the fact that she was a girl, her mother loved her without a doubt. Despite that, as a child Mariana did the best she could to be quiet and fade into the background, an attempt to ensure that her father would overlook her due to her behaviour as was appropriate to her station and gender.
With birth of her brother, she became less shy, focusing on love of her sibling rather than fear of her father. While she couldn’t constantly keep an eye on him and make sure he stayed out of trouble, Mariana did the best she could to stay close to Riordan, an attempt to being the second mother to the boy especially after the death of their mother. Due to great age difference between herself, Emmaline, and Tristan, she did not know her younger siblings too well. Still, Liadane’s death, a great shock to the young woman’s life, had her hiding her pain all the quicker and distracting herself with looking after her siblings while she still lived in the castle.
The marriage to Hadrian Jardinier, an alliance made more on her own insistence than her father and great-aunt’s plans, further sundered her from attending court for some time, and the following years that were spent in settling into Jardinier House and raising her own children kept the young woman distracted from worrying about her family too much. Yet, the rumors and the knowledge of her father’s failing mind and health allowed her to worry about her family more the closer the Court season was soon to start, and for once, she had the time to do something about all her worries. Emmaline’s approaching wedding was a good chance at reconnecting with her siblings and father and making certain that the land and the people did not suffer too much under the rule of a mad king she heard her father was becoming. Deciding to check the rumors for herself and provide support for her sister, Mariana prepared herself for starting the court game for which she had no love but found necessary for the survival of the country. Perhaps she would have some luck there, if she would make it in plenty of time.
RP Sample:
There was nothing more Mariana disliked than uncertainties and changes, and she was walking right into one the minute she was going to cross the castle threshold. Standing still long after her horses had been taken to rest, the young woman was resting against the gilded column of the palace’s gates. The surroundings were serene and beautiful, the falls of the castle many, yet she found herself lacking peace she experienced at her own place and the road. Instead, the peace was being slowly, but surely replaced by the worries of travel. She may have skimmed the missive that found her very briefly, but certain points were jumping out at her like signal fires, willing her to sit up and notice at the second go.
Her father had collapsed at the event given by her sister as an attempt at participating at something relaxing for once. Not one, but two foreign countries dispatched Ambassadors to Demeria, and now her country hosted the Royals of Sarkoszy and would soon do the same for Ambassadors of Ixo, and Mariana still was uncertain how to feel about it. The announcement of her sister’s upcoming wedding was received with a mixed worry – it had been too abrupt a mention not to realize that something else could be going on there, perhaps there were problems that the letter-writer did not wish to put to the parchment. Unrest at the east and quiet from the west were also duly noted and passed to her husband before her departure from Jardinier estate. Hadrian dealt much better in matters like these than she ever had despite her knowledge.
So far, it seemed that her arrival went unnoticed, and she was grateful for it. She was treasuring the few moments of peace she had left, and it seemed that her family was distracted by something, though she had gotten a curious look from a few pages and saw one of them run off somewhere. Well, it looked like peace was over, or would be over soon. She folded her hands lightly in front of her and quietly went inside, concealing a worried sigh, a politely worded request to another page milling about to guide her toward her rooms. It had been some time since her last visit, and Mariana had to admit that her memory of the Carlisle palace’s numerous ways was in need of refreshing. Perhaps she would find one of her family members later in the day and request them letting her know what she was going to find once at a formal function, but for now Mariana was content to stay unnoticed as usual. After all, she was going to be noticed soon enough and she wanted to be ready for it.
