ROSALIE ST. CLAIRE
Nickname: Rose
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Birthday: April 15, 1523
Noble House: St. Claire
Skills: Courtly Graces, Stealth, Equestrian skills, Needlework, Household management
Play-by: Gabriella Wilde
Immediate Family Members:
Father: Daven St. Claire
Mother: Helena St. Claire (deceased)
Siblings: Julia, Lynesse, and Cecelia St. Claire
Personality:
What Rosalie wants, Rosalie gets, that is, if she is firm enough at acquiring it. Unfortunately, being the third sibling in a row of four can be a bit of a blow to a girl’s self-esteem, but she made up for it with using her time to have some fun, owning to the fact that she does not have the same pressures as her older siblings. That meant learning to being sneaky and knowing when to sneak, because not always she could get away with it, even as a young girl and especially with her mother’s death.
Of course, there’re some things that a girl just can’t avoid, like learning the lady-like things from her older sister, though she’s shrewd enough to pay attention to how these lessons could be applied to other tasks outside of the classes. Out of necessity, and because it’s easy to overlook when one is missing for a short time, she has the ability to slightly skewer the truth to her favor, even if she’s no master manipulator like Julia, nor had the time to develop like Lynesse. She is attempting to embrace the feminine side of herself, if only because it helps her out more than anyone knows. If she giggles with her younger sister over dresses and twitters like a bird whenever she sees a pretty thing, half the time it’s a cleverly constructed front which, it seems, not even Julia had noticed so far.
Clever and stubborn like the rest of St. Claire girls, Rosalie makes the best of the situation she’s in and takes care to avoid notice aside from the one her older sister and father seem to want for her, though she has her means to learning everything she thinks she needs to learn. If there’s a way to do something, she will do it, though she tries not to cross her own family despite her ambitions, after all, she cares about all of them in her own way, despite sometimes proving to be a bit hard to manage on purpose. Unlike Lynesse, the sixteen-year-old is a realist, having seen enough of the nobles to realize that their parents had been really lucky in their match, and uses the family ability to observe to further her own ways. Sometimes, being the second middle child has its own advantages, and Rosalie fully intends to use each and every one of them, if an opportunity comes her way.
History:
Early childhood for Rosalie was spent in relative fun and games. Relative because she had to mix with her sister’s and father’s expectations of her, and wanted nothing more than to find a way to make these lessons fun. Finding such a way came unexpectedly when she learned play pretend. Picking a face, the girl would imitate their actions, however clumsy, which soon enough led her trailing after her father for his weapons practice one day. While she did not pick one weapon out on the open, Rose snuck around the place long enough to pick up some skill with daggers, enough that she can now use one for her safety if there’s need. She took the lessons in observation, following them up with those of self-learning whenever she could, and slowly gotten used to such skill gathering right under the noses of her sisters and cousins. Thanks to her family’s positions with the same, the girl learned to answer verbal barbs sent her and her sisters’ way with similar remarks of her own, not at all afraid of emotional bullies but getting upset when she saw how sad they made her sister Lynesse.
Thanks to Lyn’s habit of discreet protection, which wasn’t as stifling as Julia’s could sometimes be, Rose grew closer to Lynesse and Cecelia, despite adoring her eldest sister and following her around from time to time to pick up an assortment of skills that would be helpful to run a house. Her relationship with Julia, thus, ended up being one of sometimes-sharing, with Rose picking up a few things that needed to keep moved around the house while Julia spent her time running the Duchy and pushing their father to keep living after their mother got sick and died. That, the teen understood, was a job and a half on its own, and thus she ended up tagging along after Lynesse, to avoid upsetting her oldest sister and hiding her ways of gathering skills, information, and ways of playing mischief around the castle. After all, someone had to provide the fun to the life in order to avoid boredom behind all those lady-lessons she had to sit through during the day.
Her pretend play acts grew larger in scale until Rose ended up sneaking around and picking up various positions to test whether anyone would notice a Lady of St. Claire under this or that set of clothes and act she managed to put on. Sometimes she was caught and got hell from her father and older sister for her acts, others, she got away with it thanks to Lynnesse and Cecile covering for her, learning far more this way than she would’ve ever learned in the lady-lessons. That, and all the skills gathered during such, as well as love of needlework and picking through her outfits with a sister or two present to lend a hand, helped Rose prepare for Court, since she knew perfectly well that was where she would end up as soon as Julia deemed her ready for it.
This was an opportunity she could not miss, for Rose was aware that it was unlikely that she would find anything in St. Claire worthy of her attentions, or anyone for that matter, and it looked like Julia would be getting the Duchy – though this was still up in the air. Still, whatever her father’s decision was going to be, Rose hoped it wouldn’t be in her favor, since the St. Claire duchy, despite her love for her family, was the last thing she wanted. Julia was ready for it, so she hoped Julia got her wish, while she would try her luck at Court. Obviously it would have its own ups and downs, like pretending to be a proper lady, but she was pretty sure she was ready for that challenge. Besides, she’d have her sisters’ help, and hopefully she’d be able to make some sort of impression, better than her father’s first one.

Well, that was no fun at all. Pouting a little, Rosalie St. Claire made sure that no one aside from her mirror could see it. Of course, she was too old to be pouting, or worse, throwing temper tantrums, and besides, Julia seemed to know anyway and would put an end to it before she could say ‘ball’. And she was having fun, too, too bad that fun ended so quickly. Impatiently tossing her blond hair behind her back, Rosalie ran to catch up to her siblings, mentally scolding herself for being scatterbrained in the middle of the place where it was far from safe. Of course, her personal guard was with her as well, as a young unmarried lady of naught but sixteen was not supposed to go around the place unescorted, but there was nothing to be said for the feeling of safety that Julia and Lynesse, her older sisters, provided as they moved through the crowds. And she just stopped for a brief second!
Sighing again, the girl picked up her skirts, about which she forgot and which were now dragging on the ground and tangling about her feet. She just had to pick one of them long dresses, this one pastel green in shade, because she thought it made her look adult for her age. Of course, considering the furor at the masque that Marisa de Vere had provided, the plan had fallen through, even if she had been noticed by quite a few people. The reason Julia hadn’t exactly seen her in the crowd was because Rosalie had been hovering on the fringes of the commoners’ party, which was far livelier than the one led by the nobles. Oh, she grabbed her share of dances from the noble Lords, as well, but she especially liked the fast paced fun she got to have with the rest of the crowd, only pulling away because she saw her eldest sister seemed to be looking for her and there seemed to be some sort of commotion closer to the dais. She was too far off to see properly, however.
Still, she supposed she would learn everything from her father and Julia whenever those two would deign to inform them on the matters, and she’d make sure they will find the time to inform at least her, if not her sisters as well. A full night of interrupted fun and potential lessons, well, that just wouldn’t do! Pouting again, Rosalie caught a look from Julia and immediately desisted, trying to act like a lady she was supposed to be, yet she knew she was failing. Ah well, it was all for the better, considering that this little failure to act properly would allow her to sneak in to gather information. Eavesdrop. Whatever you wanted to call it. It wasn’t her fault that people tended to discuss things loudly when they thought none were listening, was it now?
